Qualifications for Admission to the Bar

If your answer to any of the questions in this section is "yes," you must attach a separate statement providing a complete description of your actions and full details of the charges and sanctions against you in the "Attachments" section of the application.

Although an affirmative answer to any or all of the questions below does not necessarily preclude admission to the University of Arkansas School of Law, persons who have been convicted of more serious criminal offenses may have difficulty gaining admission to the legal profession due to state bar qualifications for admission. In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners. A Comprehensive Guide to Bar Admission Requirements, which includes coverage of character and fitness requirements and contact information for each state, is available on the website of the National Conference of Bar Examiners www.ncbex.org.

If yes, you must submit an attachment giving full details, including dates; the court, if any; reference to court records, if any; the facts; the disposition of the matter; and if no court records are available, give the names and addresses of all persons involved, including counsel.

4. If, following your completion of this application (including after acceptance and matriculation), matters arise that would require you to answer yes to any of the questions above, you must notify the Office of Admissions immediately. You will be required to submit a written statement providing details regarding the reportable incident, which may affect existing admissions decisions, if any.

Fall 2025 Application Instructions

Admissions Process

We accept applications throughout the year, and offer admission on a rolling basis, so long as space remains in the incoming class. We begin admitting applicants in the fall and will continue evaluating new applications through the early summer. However, we fill seats in the incoming class as the season progresses. Therefore, applying earlier in the season (before our April 1 priority deadline) ensures consideration for scholarships. Deposit deadlines are included in your letter of admission, and failure to meet a seat deposit deadline could result in the loss of your seat. We do not charge an application fee.

Priority Deadline for Scholarship Consideration

For scholarship consideration, you should submit your completed application as soon as possible, but no later than our priority deadline (April 1). All applications completed by the April 1 deadline will be automatically considered for scholarships; no separate application is required. Applications submitted after the April 1 priority deadline will be considered for scholarships if seats/funds remain available. The Scholarship Committee typically distributes available funds based on performance on the LSAT, academic achievement, and other life experiences. If you are awarded a scholarship, we will notify you promptly after you have been admitted. To accept your scholarship offer and reserve a seat in the incoming class, you must submit a seat deposit, as detailed in your acceptance letter.

Completed Application

Required Components

A completed application must include an Application for Admission (EApp) and the following documents submitted directly by you:

Your resume. Your resume should provide specific information about your academic background, employment history, community services and/or extracurricular experiences. Please refer to the "Attachments" tab for further guidance.
Your personal statement. In your statement, tell us about yourself and your background, why you want to attend law school, and, in particular, why you wish to attend the University of Arkansas School of Law. Your statement should be written by you without assistance from others or AI software (such as ChatGPT), and there is no page length requirement. Please refer to the "Attachments" tab for further guidance.
Statements explaining affirmative answers to questions in the Character and Fitness section (if applicable). Please refer to the "Attachments" tab for further guidance.

A completed application also requires a Credential Assembly Service (CAS) Report, which includes:

Two letters of recommendation. The School of Law requires at least two letters of recommendation attesting to your character, academic abilities, and readiness for law school. If you are currently in school or have recently graduated, we prefer that at least one letter of recommendation be provided from a professor who can attest to your academic abilities. We will only accept letters sent to us by LSAC?s Letter of Recommendation Service. Please do not mail letters to us directly.
Academic transcripts. Official academic transcripts from all undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools attended, including final transcripts reflecting the conferral of all degrees earned (if any), must be submitted by the institution(s) to LSAC.
A valid LSAT score. You must have taken the LSAT during the five years preceding the date of your application. If you have more than one LSAT score during the prior five-year period, your highest LSAT score will be considered. Additionally, if you are registered for a future LSAT, we may hold your application until we receive the new score. If you already have a current score and want us to review your application before you receive your future score, email us at lawadmit@uark.edu.

We will not consider your application until it is complete.

Optional Components

You may choose to submit optional documents, including:

Up to two additional letters of recommendation (for a total of four letters). We will consider your application complete once we receive two letters of recommendation; however, we will accept up to four letters of recommendation submitted through LSAC.
Addendum addressing prior academic or test performance.
Optional statements. You are invited to provide supplemental essays that will provide us with relevant information that you may not have included elsewhere in your application. Please see the "Attachments" tab for more information. These statements are optional and are not required to complete an application.

Campus Visits

Campus visits to the School of Law are encouraged, however, such visits are not factored into our admission decisions. The Admissions Committee does not grant personal interviews.
