If you answer yes to any of the questions below, a written explanation is required. Your file will remain incomplete until you submit the required addendum. Because of the high ethical standards to which lawyers are held, the failure to disclose an act or event such as the ones described below is often more significant, and leads to more serious consequences, than the act or event itself. Failure to provide truthful answers, or failure to inform the Office of Admissions of any changes to your answers, may result in revocation of admission and/or degree, cancellation of matriculation, or disciplinary action by the School of Law, or denial of permission to practice law by the state(s) in which you seek admission to the bar. Many state bar associations require a copy of your law school application when you apply for the bar. Differing responses between the admissions and bar applications can lead the bar examiners to do a more extensive character and fitness investigation. We strongly urge you to err on the side of disclosure if you are unsure as to whether a disclosure is necessary. Please note that advice from attorneys not familiar with law school application or bar admission disclosure requirements may be incomplete or inaccurate and reliance on such advice will not excuse a failure to disclose.

In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners.

An affirmative answer to any of these questions will not automatically preclude you from admission.

Once you begin your 1L year, you are under a continuing obligation to notify the Associate Dean of Academics of any changes in your answers to these questions.
